Our Customers, Our Pride: A Tribute
One of the most important goals of anyone working in our business is (or should be) to serve every customer with a genuinely welcoming, congenial, and cordial attitude. That's why they call it the hospitality industry, after all! We hope that you notice how much we at Harrison's strive for this type of true service. We understand that we would not be here without you, and we take pride in your patronage.
We take further pride in the employee-customer relationships that we build that extend beyond this basic point of good service. Beyond simply knowing many of your names, we know, for instance, that you always prefer a window table or booth, that you will always order a glass or two of Prosecco when we have it by the glass, that you cannot have gluten or that you stay away from salty foods, that you always take your coffee with cream and no sugar, that rhubarb pie is your favorite dessert to the point that we will call you on the telephone when we have it... The list could go on and on and on.
Then there are those occasional relationships that, at some point over time, develop beyond good service and extend into the realm of friendship. You tell us about your vacations (you show us pictures!), we know your children because you tell us about them and even introduce us to them with your own pride, we know where you grew up and how you came to State College. You tell us about your joys and sometimes your sadnesses, and we share in them. We never expect these kinds of relationships to develop with our customers, but we always highly value them when they do.
Recently, one customer with whom we had this special kind of relationship passed away, and the staff at Harrison’s felt this loss deeply. A Harrison’s customer since the very beginning, many of us had years and years to develop a friendship with her. She touched our lives and we cared immensely for her.
This event has made us reflect on our relationships with you, our customers. So many of you become a part of our lives over time, and we appreciate and are grateful for being able to get to know you as people. We always aim to serve you well and appreciate getting to know you. In this spirit, we raise our glass to our Frequent Diner #1, and look forward to continuing to find unanticipated friendships among you, our patrons. Thank you for all you give us.
~In loving memory of Harrison’s Frequent Diner #1 (1922-2016)
