Soft Shells 3/4/5 & Event Venue Now Open
June 2, 2016
- Soft-Shell Crabs Return - Have Them Your Way!
- Local Produce Season
- Above the Valley Special Event Center is Open!
3 preparations | 4 coatings | 5 sauces
It’s once again the season when the Atlantic Blue Crab sheds its hard shell, becoming entirely edible, and transforms into the culinary delicacy known as the Soft-Shell Crab. This year we are mixing up our crab feature menu, allowing you to have even more choices as to how you can enjoy this seasonal treat.
We start with soft-shell crab, with its natural combination of brininess and sweetness. From there, it’s up to you! You choose from three cooking methods, four coatings, and five sauces to create your own unique soft-shell crab experience. Choose it battered and deep-fried with spicy garlic aioli; Panko-crusted and pan-fried with a fresh cilantro pesto; or perhaps grilled, lightly seasoned with olive oil, salt and pepper, with a traditional chimichurri. Those are only three possible combination—there are many more! Check out the full feature menu for all the possibilities.
For those who are not a fan of the soft-shell crab, we will also be serving a long-time customer favorite from our crab features: Crab Crepes Mornay. This delicious dish features sweet lump crab, delicate crepes, and a rich, savory cheese sauce that make for a heavenly combination.
Beginning tomorrow--Friday, June 3--will be serving our Crab Features starting at 4:30pm daily throughout June in addition to our full Lunch and Dinner menus. We hope to see you!
Local Produce Season Finally Here
As June begins, you can expect to start seeing more local produce here at Harrison’s. The weather has slowed some of the spring crops, but we expect to see more variety as the weather makes its abrupt turn to hot and humid. Some of the delightful local produce arriving from the farms now: rhubarb, arugula, baby lettuces, chards, kale, fresh herbs …and so much more to come.
Be sure to ask your server what local produce we have available!
Now Open - Above the Valley Event Center!
Calling All Event Planners!
Above the Valley Special Event Center is open and the first wedding and reception took place this past Memorial Day weekend. Walk-through tours for interested planners are now available by appointment, so give us a call, email or submit an inquiry at the link below. For the curious (and thankfully, there are many) or people who love an AMAZING view, join us for open building tours during Culinary Week, June 13-19, when we will have the building open on four different days. See the schedule for these tours below, on the Above the Valley Calendar.
Phase 1 is Complete -- Phase 2 Now in Process
Our Phase One goal, now complete, was to quickly get refurbished, code approved, fire inspected, and licensed to be open for events and viewing. It has been 3.5 quick months and while we are now beautifully event ready, there still are more activities to complete. For example, like all liquor license transfers, we are waiting for PA Liquor Control Board approval. This timeline is always a great unknown, so for the interim, we will operate BYOB. Our wifi is not yet installed, but will be soon through a unique partnership with Flashpoint ISP, who will broadcast a wireless internet signal from the top of our building out to the rural Penns Valley, expanding wireless options for this underserved market. We are also working on photography, collecting historical photos and relics of the building’s past, adding in further open-to-the public activities/tours, signage, shuttle service, and so much more. Stay tuned!
Above the Valley Website is Now Live
We have information available on our brand new website and you are able to send inquiries through this website or by emailing EatWell@HarrisonsMenu.com. Or call! All calls and inquiries are currently being taken by our Harrison’s Catering office at (814) 237-4422. Prices vary based on day, date, type of event, floor chosen, and size of group, so let us know your information so that we can send a quick quote. Room rental prices are low for summer events as we complete our Phase 2 activities – so if you have an event for June, July, or early August, the prices will never be lower.
We look forward to enjoying the view with you soon – Above the Valley!
